Third Thursday Lunch & Learn: Getting Your Deck Ready for Spring BBQs, with Joe Loferski
March 18, 2021
Noon-1 p.m.

Many houses and apartments have exterior decks and balconies that provide outdoor living space. Unfortunately, many people are injured or killed from deck-related problems in the U.S. each year. Professor Joe Loferski of the Department of Sustainable Biomaterials has conducted research on the structural safety of decks, balconies, and guardrails for more than 20 years. His research, conducted at the department’s Brooks Forest Products Center, has helped to change the building code to ensure that decks and balconies are safe. As deck season approaches, it is important that every deck owner understands the issues of deck safety. This webinar will present details on the problem of deck safety and what homeowners can do to inspect their own decks and guardrails.

There is no charge for attendance; however, we have provided an option to make a gift at check-out for those who would like to contribute. All gifts will benefit the Department of Sustainable Biomaterials Annual Fund.
