VCE – Virtual Program – AgrAbility Virginia
October 19, 2022
2-3 p.m.

AgrAbility Virginia promotes safety, wellness, and accessibility on the farm through education, rehabilitative services, and assistive technology (AT). AgrAbility Virginia offers services to farmers at no cost, supports a wide diversity of farmers and farmworkers across all farming communities, and addresses a wide variety of disabling conditions in agriculture. We work directly with farmers experiencing disability, injury, and illness to help them identify strategies to enhance mental health and farm stress and AT to improve accessibility and enhance independence. AT recommendations can include a lift for a tractor or an added handrail or step to improve access, or a small modification on an existing tool such as adding a horizontal handle to a shovel for better grip strength. AT can be highly technological like a robotic glove we are developing to help with grip strength or ‘low tech’ like a utility cart or push wheelbarrow. Join Garland Mason Coordinator of AgrAbility Virginia and Associate in the Center for Food Systems & Community Transformation to hear more.

If you are an individual with a disability and desire accommodation, please contact Joi Saville at (540) 231-1096 or email joi.saville@vt.edu during regular business hours at least 10 business days prior to the event.
