Ex Lapide Alumni Society "Out at Work" Student and Alumni Networking WorkshopJanuary 28, 20216-8:30 p.m.Ex Lapide: QTPOC Stories and “Out at Work” Tell your Virginia Tech story. Historically, American archives have overwhelmingly represented the experience of affluent, white, heterosexual, cisgender, and Christian males. Knowing this bias, Special Collections and University Archives at Virginia Tech is collaborating with Alumni Relations to collect oral history accounts from queer and trans people of color in the New River Valley and Southwest Virginia. This ongoing project is part of a committed effort to tell the full and diverse story of Virginia Tech’s history. The Out at Work Student and Alumni Networking Workshop brings together LGBTQ+ alumni, students, faculty, staff, and professionals for an evening of candid, interactive conversation, as well as professional development. Attendees will have the opportunity to discuss the real nuances, issues, and rewards of being “out” and successful in the world of work. Following the panel will be a meet and greet to allow attendees to have more personal and honest conversations about critical topics.
There is no charge for attendance; however, we have provided an option to make a gift at check-out for those who would like to contribute. All gifts will benefit the LGBTQ+ Center.
If you are an individual with a disability and desire an accommodation, please contact Latanya Walker at (540) 553-2701 or email latanya@vt.edu during regular business hours at least 10 business days prior to the event.
