The 2026 John F. Hosner Distinguished LectureAncient forests and the stories they tell
David Stahle is a world-renowned dendrochronologist whose pioneering research uses tree rings to reveal centuries of climate history — from ancient cypress swamps in North Carolina to droughts that shaped civilizations across the Americas. His work has uncovered the oldest known living trees in the eastern United States and helped scientists understand climate variability across continents.
Join us for an evening that connects science, history, and discovery – and hear how trees hold the keys to understanding our planet’s past and preparing for its future.
The John F. Hosner Distinguished Lecture honors the visionary leadership of CNRE’s founding dean and is supported through a generous endowment from the Hosner family.
Registrants may make an optional gift at checkout to the CNRE Annual Fund. Your gift will count toward Virginia Tech Giving Day 2026.
