Nancy McGehee named Robert B. Pamplin Professor of Hospitality and Tourism Management
Nancy G. McGehee, professor of hospitality and tourism management in the Pamplin College of Business at Virginia Tech, was recently named the Robert B. Pamplin Professor of Hospitality and Tourism Management by the Virginia Tech Board of Visitors.
Established in 2011, the Robert B. Pamplin Professorship in Hospitality and Tourism Management is one of several named professorships established with a portion of the $10 million endowment presented to the Pamplin College by Robert B. Pamplin Sr. and Robert B. Pamplin Jr. This professorship supports excellence in education in the Howard Feiertag Department of Hospitality and Tourism Management. Recipients hold the professorship for five years.
A member of the Virginia Tech faculty since 2001, McGehee’s scholarship spans the field of tourism with recent emphasis in the areas of tourism advocacy and sustainable and transformative tourism.
McGehee is widely recognized in her field, being named to the outstanding women in travel research by Women in Travel and Tourism International in 2017. In 2014, she received the Virginia Tech Alumni Award for Excellence in International Research.
McGehee served seven years as department head of the Howard Feiertag Department of Hospitality and Tourism Management.
She is co-editor of the Journal of Travel Research and has published 47 articles, two books, five book chapters, and 13 technical reports generating more than 7,900 Google Scholar citations. In addition, she has generated nearly $500,000 in research grants, contracts, and fellowships in the U.S. and abroad.
An effective classroom instructor at all levels, McGehee has mentored and co-authored with multiple successful hospitality and tourism doctoral students.
McGehee earned her bachelor’s degree from Marshall University, a master’s degree from North Carolina State University, and a master’s degree and Ph.D. from Virginia Tech.
