ALUMNI SPOTLIGHT ✨ 👨🎓 Say hello to Chase Parker, a 2017 Multimedia Journalism graduate! We're so happy to have Chase nearby in his role with University Libraries at Virginia Tech. 𝐅𝐚𝐯𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐞 𝐜𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐬 𝐚𝐭 𝐓𝐞𝐜𝐡: Broadcasting Performance with Bill Roth 𝐂𝐮𝐫𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐣𝐨𝐛 𝐭𝐢𝐭𝐥𝐞: Multimedia Producer 𝐅𝐚𝐯𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐞 𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐜𝐮𝐫𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐣𝐨𝐛: I work with a team of creative communicators who encourage career growth, work-life balance, and living out our motto, “Ut Prosim.” As the multimedia producer, I get to tell the stories that highlight some of the incredible things happening at Virginia Tech. We all know that this is a special place, and getting to play a small role in that makes all of the hard work worth it. ALUMNI SPOTLIGHT ✨ 👩🎓 Give it up for Shannon Mezebish (O'Dowd), a 2016 Public Relations graduate! Shannon has found her place in cybersecurity PR with Tenable. 𝐅𝐚𝐯𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐞 𝐜𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐬 𝐚𝐭 𝐓𝐞𝐜𝐡: Communication Law with Dr. Cayce Myers was hands down my favorite class. I also LOVED working at the CommLab with Brandi Quesenberry! 𝐂𝐮𝐫𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐣𝐨𝐛 𝐭𝐢𝐭𝐥𝐞: Senior PR Manager 𝐅𝐚𝐯𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐞 𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐜𝐮𝐫𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐣𝐨𝐛: I am fortunate to work with some incredibly talented people in the communications, marketing and technology industries. It’s energizing to work together to execute creative projects, share thought provoking ideas from our seasoned experts and build a brand that’s synonymous with excellence. 𝐀𝐝𝐯𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐜𝐮𝐫𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐬𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬: Embrace new challenges and opportunities. My first full-time job was in cybersecurity PR, a field I had virtually no experience in. Today, I have a rewarding and successful career that may not have transpired had I shied away from learning something new.

Katie Thomas served as faculty mentor for Nya Davis, Ryan Krzysik and Maddie Swartz (not pictured), three students from her Comm Skills class, at the 𝑫𝒆𝒏𝒏𝒊𝒔 𝑫𝒆𝒂𝒏 𝑼𝒏𝒅𝒆𝒓𝒈𝒓𝒂𝒅𝒖𝒂𝒕𝒆 𝑹𝒆𝒔𝒆𝒂𝒓𝒄𝒉 𝑪𝒐𝒏𝒇𝒆𝒓𝒆𝒏𝒄𝒆. So proud of our students and the #research they are engaging in, even in their undergrad years!

Tanushri Shankar, a 2016 public relations graduate, has used her skills to excel in politics in Washington, D.C. "For me, the thing that is really important in any job is that I'm making a difference; I'm leaving the world a better place than how I found it," Shankar said. The Kenneth F. Rystrom Award for Academic Excellence honors the School of Communication senior with the highest grade point average. Congrats to Natalie Mullins, Vincent Parente and Jacob Sawyers! All three had a perfect 4.0 GPA both in major and out of major 👏
