How can advances in AI help hospital emergency departments ensure they’re appropriately staffed during patient surges to decrease problems from emergency department crowding? That’s the challenge that Patrick Butler, a senior research associate at the Sanghani Center for AI and Data Analytics, worked with Children’s National Hospital to tackle.
Butler will be joined by Kenneth McKinley, assistant director of data analytics and informatics in the Division of Emergency Medicine at Children's National Hospital to present the project. Their work helps predict when emergency department crowding and long wait times will lead to patients leaving without being seen.
The program will be introduced by Michael Friedlander, executive director of the Fralin Biomedical Research Institute and Virginia Tech's vice president for health sciences and technology, who will also detail the expanding partnership between Virginia Tech and Children’s National Hospital.
Registration is $10 for admission and one drink ticket, or $15 for admission and two drink tickets. Registration includes a $5 gift to the Sanghani Center Outreach Foundation Fund.
